Teaching Associate Fee Waiver

CSU Executive Order 611 grants campuses the authority to offer Tuition Fee Waiver programs for Teaching Associates. In recognition of the important contribution our Teaching Associates make to the campus community, University Policy S05-9 authorizes San José State University to offer tuition fee waivers to Teaching Associates.

Eligibility Requirements

Application and Important Information

• Submit the Teaching Associate Fee Waiver Application [pdf] to your hiring department to begin the process
• Teaching Associate who are receiving federal/state financial aid, including any state grants, scholarship, or fellowships must contact Carolyn Guel, 408-924-6083 at the Financial Aid & Scholarship Office prior to completing the fee waiver application. Receiving the tuition fee waiver can affect their financial aid.
• Special session and self-support courses are not eligible for fee waiver.
• Tuition fee waiver will be issued as a reimbursement.

Fees waived during the teaching semester

• Mandatory campus miscellaneous fees (at the CA-resident tuition level)
• Mandatory state university fees (at the CA-resident tuition level)

California Residency

• The fee waiver applies only to certain fees incurred by California residents.
• Employees who do not meet in-state residency requirements must pay non-resident tuition charges based enrolled units.

Employment Time Base (FTE) Fee Waiver Plan

According to University Policy F01-3, a TA's semester employment time base determines whether they qualify for a semester fee waiver and the value of that semester fee waiver. The table below shows the number of units for which fees will be waived (reimbursed) per appointment time base.
