Announcing COHA ai-et Fellows
The College of Humanities and the Arts is proud to announce the 2026-2027 ai-et Fellows to build out the Advanced Institute for Ethical Technology.
Our Institute is grounded in the following values:
• Advancing Knowledge through scholarly and community-engaged research, and excellent and innovative teaching.
• Playfulness that explores different forms of scholarship, encompasses creative activity on an equal footing with scholarly research, encourages experimentation with pedagogical strategies, and explores unexpected ways to involve and engage communities.
• Ethical Imagination that brings multiple viewpoints and strategies into conversation with each other, expands our understanding of who matters, and builds our capacity for world-sharing.
• Courage to explore new ideas, to understand failure as a resource, and to push against corporate capture and narratives of inevitability about the future of technology in our lives.
• Sustainability through robust communities of practice and support structures, and by explicit valuing of collaboration, works in progress, and “small” outputs that have high impact.
Our four “lanes” for these Fellowships are as follows, and are detailed below:
Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity
Qualifications, Compensation and Time commitment for fellowships
To be eligible, the applicant must be a tenure-line faculty member in the College of Humanities & the Arts.
The selected Fellows will receive 3 WTUs in the 2027 Spring semester, which is the equivalent of a 3-unit course reduction. Fellows are expected to commit approximately 8 hours of work a week (including regular meetings with the Fellows group and with mentors) for the 16 weeks of the Spring semester; some of this work may commence in December or January to best prepare the fellow to pursue the goals of the different lanes of the fellowships.
Process and Deadlines for Fellow application
The application portal is now open as a Google Form, applications will be due on October 1st at 5:00 pm, and announcements will be made no later than November 3rd.
You may apply for any or all of the Fellowship “ lanes.” Please read the descriptions of all four lanes linked above so that you have a holistic understanding of the collaborative work we envision the Fellows undertaking together.
We will ask you to prioritize your first through fourth preferences for your Fellowship “lane” in your application, though you can apply for only one or two if that is your preference.
The application will ask you to upload the following documents:
1. Narrative that, for one or two of the “lanes,” identifies a selection of the possible activities suggested in the lane’s description and explains why you would be an excellent candidate to undertake them (1000 words maximum) and briefly discusses your experience working in collaborative groups and/or your interest in working in collaborative groups (500 words maximum) .
2. Your current CV.

We we host two help sessions for those interested in applying to be Fellows:
- Tuesday, September 8, 10-11 am (in WSQ 119 and on Zoom)
- Wednesday, September 16, 12-1 pm (in WSQ 119 and on Zoom)
